Pledge To Love Planet Earth: Earth Day 2015

Happy Earth Day everyone! Earth Day was founded by Gaylord Nelson in 1970.  Today marks the 45th anniversary of what is considered the birth of a modern environmental movement.  The aim was to encourage emerging consciousness of environmental movements and inspire individuals to rally together to take a stand for the environment, pushing environmental concerns to the forefront, and become the focus of discussion and news stories. Today, in honor of Earth Day, friends, family and co-workers can take an Earth Day challenge and pledge to commit to one or more of these easy to keep green resolutions. During Earth Week, we become more conscious of the environment and our impact on the planet. We get into “green mode” anticipating celebrating Earth Day and feel inspired to be as environmentally responsible as possible.  These 5 green resolutions are easy to do, and will help you to contribute to making a positive impact on planet earth, this Earth Day. Earth Day Challenge: 5 Green Resolutions 1. Get Unplugged I often talk about the necessity to unplug electronic devices when …

Growing Together: How To Start A Community Garden

It’s the eve of Earth Day, and a great Earth Day project for kids, family and the community is to create a community garden. I would love to see Cayman come together and venture into creating community gardens.  It’s a project I have been thinking about for some time now, and would love to hear from anyone interested in starting such a project, if that is you, please send an email to Starting a community garden, can be a simple and fun project.  First thing, plan out what herbs, fruits and vegetables you want to grow.  Consider saving the seeds and planting trees. Before you toss a mango or avocado seed out, consider planting it in your backyard. Some great herbs that can be grown locally are: mint, parsley, rosemary, thyme and basil.  Eco Tip: Spring onion, is super easy to grow.  After you buy some from the grocery store, cut off the ends with the roots, and plant them straight into the ground, they grow super quick. If you can get your neighborhood on …

Poetry, Art + Saving the Planet

Recently, I was listening to the song Dream Catch Me, by Newton Faulkner and it reminded me of my many trips to Australia.  I love how songs can transport you back to different places you have visited and times in your life.  The lyrics of this song ignited inspiration in me, to write.  It’s been a long time since I have written anything.  A passion of mine is writing poetry and short stories.  As for the blog, sorry everyone, that I haven’t made any recent posts until now.  I guess it’s best to write when you are inspired and can produce quality writing.  Writing that I hope will inspire. Some years ago I was humbled, when a poem I wrote was featured in a local news paper for Earth Day.  I’d like to believe that when writing or producing art in any form, it is not just for the sake of creating art, but to inspire and make a positive difference in the world. Art is an incredible gift and absolutely fascinating.  I think of …

With love from one tree hugger to another xo….Happy Earth Day 2013

I hope everyone had a wonderful Earth Day Weekend! I love Earth Day! I hope everyone around the world will feel inspired to help make a difference in the world.  There is so much we can do to help save our planet.  Little things like choosing to recycle, reuse, and reduce will help make an impact.  We can do more, I encourage everyone today to help replenish the planet by planting a tree or some flowers today. I spent this morning doing just that 🙂 Alternatively, join your community in a beach clean up.   This quote speaks volumes.   Enjoy Earth Day! Give some love to the planet.  Have a beautiful day!   With love from one planet lover to another xo P.S.- Some great documentaries to watch with friends and family today. Trashed The 11th Hour
