Q&A with Kristi Anderson
This book came to life one day when I outlined one of my scrapbook sketches that I had completed. It was actually the page with the reef and the fish. It was intricate and fun and I had a strong sensation of wanting to sit there and colour it in. Voila! This is when it came to me that I was capable of drawing a book of island scenes that were colourable and for adults. I chose to make the book for adults as this emerging category is both exciting and I could also make my drawings as intricate as I wanted to make them. 25 pages later and I had a book that I really wanted to share with everyone!
2. When are the coloring books available for purchase?
The colouring books are now available for purchase. It is an Illustrated Colouring E-Book therefore it is not available in Print Form. As it is an E-book it will not be printed or available anywhere else but the site for right now. Eventual printed copies will be available but not immediately.
3. Is there a quote or message you would like to give about the environment?
“I’m not telling you its going to be easy. I’m Telling you it’s going to be worth it.” – Art Williams – I love this quote for our environment. Mainly, because as we actively destroy it piece by piece, it will take an effort from all of us to pick it all up and start putting those pieces back together to ensure we have a clean and live-able planet for us all.
4. What do you love most about art?
I love Everything about Art. Its ability to allow you to change or distort or even just reflect what you see is a fantastic gift. I love art for the main part because it is my creative outlet. I have doodled on everything I can remember. But I love the way how I look at a certain action or piece of architecture on island and the swirls and curves of each piece is a delight to place on paper.
5. What do you find interesting between the relationship between art and our environment?
Art and the environment are two beings in one. To quote “Art is often created through the re-imagining of ordinary things – unknown. The Cayman Environment provides a perfect landscape for exploration and mischievousness that can lend itself to the creativity of the artist and the work produced. The many floras and faunas that co-exist on island bring colours to life and beauty to the unexpected . Everything that we are surrounded by on our island home from the fantastic blue iguanas to our thriving reefs represent a colour or project that can be placed on paper for all of us to enjoy! The Art in Colour Me Cayman is all about exploring the environment and some of our national monuments. It is a way to bring to life the mundane image of a coconut tree to the forefront of our minds and for us to realise that we are surrounded by beauty from West Bay to East End and back.
