Eco Chic Gift Wrapping

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season so far!  Only now have I started tackling gift wrapping.  Personally, I enjoy gift wrapping.  Nearly every year, without fail my sister has me wrap all the gifts for her friends. One way you can incorporate being eco friendly this Christmas, is by wrapping most, if not all your gifts with newspaper.  It’s a fun way to repurpose newspaper. Use a ribbon to add a little flare.  The good thing about ribbons is that they can be reused.  If you love putting your presents in gift bags, consider purchasing a stylish reusable bag. Happy gift wrapping! With love, from one tree hugger to another, xo

Eco Chic Christmas Greetings

‘Tis the time to start sending out Christmas Cards… One of my favorite things about Christmas is writing and mailing Christmas cards to friends and family.  I love getting cards in the mail.  However, as much as I love receiving and sending cards across the globe it adds up on its environmental impact.  For instance, “300,000 trees are cut down to fulfill the demand of Christmas cards in US each year.”  Yikes! Below are a few ideas on how to be eco friendly this Christmas. An Eco Friendly Thanksgiving…

On the eve of Thanksgiving Day, I have come up with a few ideas on how to make one of my favorite holidays of the year eco friendly! Give Thanks One way family and friends can come together and share what they are thankful for is by creating a “Mural of Gratitude” if you happen to have a chalkboard consider gathering everyone around to write one thing that they are thankful for this year.  Growing up, it was a family tradition, just before we ate dinner, we went around the table and said one thing we were thankful for.  Alternatively, if you are able to purchase some chalkboard paper consider framing your mural of gratitude by repurposing an old picture frame.  Bonus, it will make a great homemade thanksgiving decoration for next year. Thanksgiving Feast For many families dinner is all about the turkey.  Growing up we have always had a turkey as part of our Thanksgiving Dinner.  Personally, I am not a vegetarian or vegan.  However, I am working towards having more vegetarian or …

Juice Bars + Summer Days

Drinking all natural & 100% organic juices and smoothies that are full of flavor and jam-packed with healthy benefits is very in vogue right now- just as it should be.  Cayman is very blessed to have the one and only lovely Jessie’s Juice Bar located at Camana Bay.  The juice bar is stocked with vibrant fresh fruit and veggie juices, along with tasty savory eats and yummy treats.  It is the perfect place to stop by for a healthy lunch or smoothie while on the go. The decor is just fabulous! As it is very eco chic and environment friendly.  You will instantly fall in love with this place.  It is such a treat to find a place that repurposes items, and incorporates being environmentally responsible into their decor.  Overall, Jessie’s Juice Bar really sets the bar.  Simply put it is a wonderful local hot spot. Perhaps the essence of Jessie’s Juice bar is that it is a family run business which truly cares about offering fresh and healthy food and drink options.  Items …

Countdown to Zero Waste Week

Today you are in for a real treat as Eco Chic Cayman is proud to present its first guest blogger, Rachelle, the creator of “Zero Waste Week,” a campaign in the U.K which seeks to educate and create awareness about food waste. Recent research shows that 30 to 50% of the food we produce on this planet never reaches a human stomach. It gets rejected because it’s the wrong shape, it gets trashed because supermarkets order too much and it gets thrown away by householders when they buy too much or cook too much. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that nearly 870 million people (one in eight) in the world, suffer from food poverty. Yet the irony is we already produce enough food to feed everybody across the globe! There is a grassroots awareness campaign called “Zero Waste Week” which takes place 2-8th September 2013. This year’s theme is “Use it up!” and you are invited to reconsider YOUR food waste. Not only is reducing food waste better for the environment but …
