Countdown to Zero Waste Week

Zero Waste Week Final JPEG

Today you are in for a real treat as Eco Chic Cayman is proud to present its first guest blogger, Rachelle, the creator of “Zero Waste Week,” a campaign in the U.K which seeks to educate and create awareness about food waste.

Recent research shows that 30 to 50% of the food we produce on this planet never reaches a human stomach. It gets rejected because it’s the wrong shape, it gets trashed because supermarkets order too much and it gets thrown away by householders when they buy too much or cook too much.

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that nearly 870 million people (one in eight) in the world, suffer from food poverty. Yet the irony is we already produce enough food to feed everybody across the globe!

There is a grassroots awareness campaign called “Zero Waste Week” which takes place 2-8th September 2013. This year’s theme is “Use it up!” and you are invited to reconsider YOUR food waste.

Not only is reducing food waste better for the environment but it benefits your bank balance too – every time you throw food away, you throw money in the bin.

Find out more and register at http://www.zerowasteweek.co.uk or join the Facebook events page and invite your friends to join in too. https://www.facebook.com/events/621113744567801/

Please help support this amazing initiative and campaign which helps raise awareness about food waste.

With love from one food lover to another, lets join together to “Use it up!” and reduce food waste. xo
