World Oceans Day: Sustainable Fashion Ocean Inspired Giveaway

In honour of World Oceans Day (June 8) Eco Chic Cayman is proud to partner with Sage Larock and host a giveaway whilst, raising ocean awareness through our social media campaign focusing on topics including: plastic pollution, ghost nets and protecting coral reefs.  This year, World Oceans Day theme is: “Preventing plastic pollution and encouraging solutions for a healthy ocean.” We couldn’t agree more with this very relevant call to action.  Now more than ever, communities, companies, and organisations need to unite in a global effort to put an end to plastic pollution and unnecessary plastic packaging.  We can all do our part to contribute to the end of plastic pollution, by taking a simple pledge to stop using single-use plastics is a great starting point.  It is said, that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish if plastic pollution continues to escalate.  Plastic is harmful to marine life and is often ingested as it is commonly mistaken as food.  Reportedly, plastic is said to be having negative impacts and …

Ocean Guard: Protecting an Underwater Paradise

People protect what they love, it is that simple.  Many of us share an incredible love and respect for our oceans, coral reefs and marine life.  “Coral reefs are the largest living structure on the planet, and the only living structure to be visible from space” (IYOR).  Coral reefs have been in existence and evolved on earth over the past 200 to 300 million years. (IYOR)  Right now, coral reefs are more vulnerable than ever before.  Coral reefs are degrading because of arising changes in their natural environment and the disruption of the balance of the ocean.  The accumulation of stressors are having a profound effect upon coral reefs putting them in a precarious state.  Some of the major threats coral reefs face right now are: ocean acidification, coral bleaching, over-fishing, pollution, coral diseases, invasive species and coastal developments.  Coral reefs are disappearing at an unprecedented rate.  This results in the loss of precious ecosystems and habitats for marine life.  Coral reefs play an integral role in maintaining the balance of the ocean, ecosystems and …

Ocean-Guard: Save The Reefs

Eco Chic Cayman is proud to team up with Eco Divers Reef Foundation to help raise awareness about their coral nursery program.  Eco Divers Reef Foundation is a non-profit organization. Founders Brittany Balli and Aaron Hunt, are a husband and wife team devoted to restoring fragile and damaged reefs in the Cayman Islands.  The heart of their coral conservation efforts is to maintain local coral nurseries and coral out plant sites throughout the Cayman Islands.  Their ethos is coming together as a community in a united effort to preserve Cayman’s reefs to ensure a positive future for these precious ecosystems.  This will allow future generations the opportunity to enjoy Cayman’s reefs as we have done.  Eco Divers Reef Foundation is dedicated to protecting our reefs, and educating the youth and community about the important role coral reefs play in our oceans.
