Glisten. Glitter. Glow.

The countdown to Thanksgiving Day has begun! Did I mention it is my favorite holiday of all time?  I love the idea of dedicating a day to gratitude and thanks.  It’s been a rainy day, so I put on some Christmas tunes and started making some eco friendly Thanksgiving decorations. Glisten. A plate of thanksgiving.  I spray painted a plastic plate, which I picked up from the dollar aisle at Foster’s Food Fair.  I printed out my thanksgiving message which came from a Pinterest inspired project, my bestie Michelle sent me. Follow the directions for some transfer paper, with a sticky adhesive.  Voila! Glitter.   An easy way to repurpose and reuse pine cones for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, is to sprinkle some glitter on to add a little sparkle. The pine cones were placed in a glass jar, for display and then glitter was added.  After the holidays, the glitter will be easy to pour out and store for future use. Glow. I have fallen in love with LED lights, battery operated style! The …

A Pumpkin Full Of Posies

Trying to come up with new holiday decorations is always a fun challenge. After buying a pumpkin to decorate for the month of October, I thought about how I could repurpose that old pumpkin… What was once my Cinderella Themed Pumpkin has now become my Thanksgiving inspired pumpkin. I chose to write this month’s blog theme onto the pumpkin, “give thanks & give with love.” It seemed seasonally appropriate. The Pumpkin Makeover Step 1: Carve out the pumpkin. Originally, I didn’t carve out the pumpkin. Step2 : Decorate. I spray painted the pumpkin with a gold metallic spray. Hiding the original inscription, and modernizing the gemstones previously there. Step 3: Stuff the pumpkin with some brightly colored flowers. Carnations are great, they tend to last quite a long time. Step 4: Write an inscription. Snapshots with love, xo

Give Thanks + Give With Love

Hello Sweet November! November is home to my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving Day!  First off, I am very thankful for this “fall” salty sea breeze!  This is as close as it gets for us in Cayman to fall/winter weather.  Lets be real, it gets as cold as 70’s-80’s, nevertheless it is a wonderful cool breeze. I am hoping this cool wind sticks around right into the new year.  For some of us we need to break out the sweaters.  I have been missing Toronto and my winter wardrobe, so now I finally have an excuse to start wearing my sweaters and blazers.  This is my favorite time of year.  The air has changed.  It feels like something different is in the air, something magical.  I guess it is just the wonder and enchantment of this time of year, as soon as the sea breeze rolls in the countdown to the holidays and all the magic they hold begins.  I have already been pinning recipes to try out for this year’s thanksgiving dinner, and so far …

An Eco Friendly Thanksgiving…

On the eve of Thanksgiving Day, I have come up with a few ideas on how to make one of my favorite holidays of the year eco friendly! Give Thanks One way family and friends can come together and share what they are thankful for is by creating a “Mural of Gratitude” if you happen to have a chalkboard consider gathering everyone around to write one thing that they are thankful for this year.  Growing up, it was a family tradition, just before we ate dinner, we went around the table and said one thing we were thankful for.  Alternatively, if you are able to purchase some chalkboard paper consider framing your mural of gratitude by repurposing an old picture frame.  Bonus, it will make a great homemade thanksgiving decoration for next year. Thanksgiving Feast For many families dinner is all about the turkey.  Growing up we have always had a turkey as part of our Thanksgiving Dinner.  Personally, I am not a vegetarian or vegan.  However, I am working towards having more vegetarian or …

Happy Thanksgiving Canada xo

Happy Thanksgiving Canada! xo Growing up I celebrated the American Thanksgiving, and since living in Toronto I now celebrate Thanksgiving twice a year! Thank you Canada.  Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year.  What I love most about this holiday is that Thanksgiving is a whole day dedicated to spending time with family and friends and more importantly to reflect on what we are most thankful for.  At Thanksgiving dinner my family would go around the table and say at least one thing we were thankful for, and that is how I think of Thanksgiving.  A time to reflect on our blessings. There is so much to be thankful for in this world.  Just walking down a nature trail, shows you how beautiful this world is.  Being surrounded by trees that seem to touch the sky, and are transforming into gorgeous earth tones and gold, can really put things into perspective.  We really are so small in this world, yet we make the hugest impact on the environment.  Our planet deserves so much …

Apples + Pumpkins

October is my favorite month of the year! I just love fall it is such a beautiful season, the leaves changing into rich earthy colors, burnt orange, gold, and rustic shades of red.  Part of all the fun, is its that time of year to go apple picking or searching out for that rich pumpkin to make your delicious Thanksgiving Day Pumpkin Pie! (Love, Love, Love Pumpkin Pie + Thanksgiving Day).   These simple joys in life I get to take advantage of in the lovely city of Toronto.  In Cayman, we are richly blessed with our trees lush green all year long.  My favorite time during fall back home, is that change in the air when hurricane season is over, and the nor’wester starts rolling in… The sea breeze becomes cooler and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore is my memory of fall/winter back home. Apple Picking is such a cool experience!  It is very humbling, not everyday do you get a chance to walk in the shoes of a farmer, …
