Ticktock, Drip Drop

I am dedicating this post in honor of the upcoming World Water Day (22 March).  The first World Water Day was in 1993.  The United Nations General Assembly designated 22 March as World Water Day.  Since its inception, World Water Day is celebrated around the world, drawing attention to various water related issues. This year’s theme is “Water Is” Check out the video below for more details. I love this theme.  It is important to step back and take a moment to ponder what does water mean to us and our lives.  Water holds such incredible value.  Many times we take it for granted that there is fresh water available to us.  We have clean water to drink, clean with, and cook with.  However, there are many who are not as fortunate.  For instance, “1 in 9 people lack access to safe water” (Water.org). Check out this video by Water.org Water is… everything.  Water is life.  Water is at the heart of our survival.   Conservation International has created an incredible short video raising …

52: A Voice Lost in a Sea of Echoes

Photo Credit: Lonely Whale   Hello! Can anybody hear me? Is anybody out there- listening? Radio silence….. Imagine, sending out a plea for connection, only to have your cry become lost in a sea of echoes. The “52 Hertz Whale,” also known as the “Lonely Whale” has for years wandered the ocean solo. Living a life of solitude- completely cut off from bonding and connecting with other whales. Tragically, it is believed that this lonely whale sends out a frequency unlike any other whale; a unique call. To date, it is said that no other whale has responded to this lone whale’s cry. Dr. William Watkins theorized, lonely whale, “was either the first of its kind, the last of its kind, or a whale with a malformation in its call, resulting in its inability to mate or form a bond with any of his species” (Lonely Whale). At the heart of the matter, this gentle giant is a hero with a story to tell. Lonely Whale has spent an entire lifetime roaming through the abyss …

Photo Credit: Doug Bell The United Nations General Assembly designated 3rd March as World Wildlife Day, to celebrate the world’s wild fauna and flora (United Nations). In honor of World Wildlife Day, I would like to dedicate this post to raise awareness for the Blue Iguanas, a national beauty and icon of the Cayman Islands. There was a time when we almost lost our beloved Blue Iguanas, thankfully they are moving out of danger from becoming extinct. Currently, the population of Blue Iguanas has reached over 900, showing promise of reaching a target goal of a population of 1,000 Blue Iguanas. The care and dedication of staff members of the Blue Iguana Recovery Program, along with the success of captive breeding has contributed …
