I’ll Drink To That… DIY Chic Chalkboard Paint Repurposed Bottles

Over the weekend I found some time to work on some eco art projects.  I had a fantastic time!    Here is another eco chic way you can repurpose your wine bottles and glass jars.  Confession, this may have been one of those catch 22 art projects.  On one hand, I tried to be eco friendly by repurposing the glass bottles into chic decorative pieces for dinner or birthday parties by painting them in chalkboard paint.  Yet, the chalkboard spray paint may not have been so eco friendly. What you will need: chalkboard paint, chalk, wine bottles or glass jars. Easy Steps:  1. I bought some chalkboard paint in a spray can.  It was easy to use and pretty cheap.  (I purchased it at AL Thompson) Confession, it may have not been the most eco friendly choice, but I could not find one that was made with eco friendly products.  I felt it better to buy the spray can version as opposed to a can of chalkboard paint.  The spray can had the amount I …

Uncorked: DIY Wine Cork Art Project

When the last bottle of wine or Champagne was been finished off, and all that is left are the remains of a legendary soiree or spectacular birthday party, one can always find a creative way to be eco friendly.  Perhaps even throw an eco art project after-party… Save up all  your Wine/Champagne corks for a rainy day project or a day you feel inspired to take on some DIY Eco Art Projects.  I have come up with 2 ways that corks can be repurposed into functional, eco friendly items.  The wine corks used for these art projects were saved up over time. A simple eco friendly touch you can add to your eco party/event is to repurpose corks into name holders, or to identify yummy treats or refreshing drinks. All you need… Champagne cork, and business card(s).  All I did was cut a groove into the Champagne cork, not too …

Cayman Recycles, Creating A Greener Tomorrow

I absolutely love to hear about new “green” initiatives in Cayman.  It has been long overdue that Cayman started a proper recycling program, as a small island it is imperative that we strive to work towards a greener tomorrow.  Unfortunately, as consumers we have infinite wants and finite resources.  On a whole, as our desire to buy and consume more products grows, we are depleting our natural resources at a rapid rate.  Without implementing proper recycling programs or by choosing not to recycle, has a tremendous negative impact on the environment.  Thankfully, Cayman is working towards offering more greener options and recycling programs for the community.  A huge thanks to JUNK for starting a recycling program.  A special thank you to Kirk Market for sponsoring a recycling collection facility at their location.  Mr. Alberto Thompson, operations manager of JUNK Removal and Recycling, made an excellent point “if every household in the Cayman Islands were compelled to recycle, the amount of trash coming into the dump could be cut in half” (Cayman Compass).  JUNK is …
