Glisten. Glitter. Glow.

The countdown to Thanksgiving Day has begun! Did I mention it is my favorite holiday of all time?  I love the idea of dedicating a day to gratitude and thanks.  It’s been a rainy day, so I put on some Christmas tunes and started making some eco friendly Thanksgiving decorations. Glisten. A plate of thanksgiving.  I spray painted a plastic plate, which I picked up from the dollar aisle at Foster’s Food Fair.  I printed out my thanksgiving message which came from a Pinterest inspired project, my bestie Michelle sent me. Follow the directions for some transfer paper, with a sticky adhesive.  Voila! Glitter.   An easy way to repurpose and reuse pine cones for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, is to sprinkle some glitter on to add a little sparkle. The pine cones were placed in a glass jar, for display and then glitter was added.  After the holidays, the glitter will be easy to pour out and store for future use. Glow. I have fallen in love with LED lights, battery operated style! The …

A Pumpkin Full Of Posies

Trying to come up with new holiday decorations is always a fun challenge. After buying a pumpkin to decorate for the month of October, I thought about how I could repurpose that old pumpkin… What was once my Cinderella Themed Pumpkin has now become my Thanksgiving inspired pumpkin. I chose to write this month’s blog theme onto the pumpkin, “give thanks & give with love.” It seemed seasonally appropriate. The Pumpkin Makeover Step 1: Carve out the pumpkin. Originally, I didn’t carve out the pumpkin. Step2 : Decorate. I spray painted the pumpkin with a gold metallic spray. Hiding the original inscription, and modernizing the gemstones previously there. Step 3: Stuff the pumpkin with some brightly colored flowers. Carnations are great, they tend to last quite a long time. Step 4: Write an inscription. Snapshots with love, xo

PS- When the clock strikes 12…

As the echoes of memories of this year begin to fade out, the possibilities of change, hope and the excitement of new memories to be made draw in closer. Well, it’s New Year’s Eve… When the clock strikes 12 at midnight, the ball will drop, the confetti will fall, the Champagne corks will pop, toasts will be made, the fireworks will soar fast, light up the sky, burn out and fade away into the night, and resolutions will be made. I think we owe it to ourselves when making resolutions to ask ourselves, did we make good resolutions?  Will we actually work hard at honoring them, and fulfill them.  With every beginning there is an end, and every end there is a beginning, so I wonder, do people really change with the bringing in of a new year? Will we ourselves change for the better? Will we give more to those in need and do more acts of kindness? Will we thank God more for the blessings in our lives?  As for the blessings that we find ourselves …

Eco Chic Gift Wrapping

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season so far!  Only now have I started tackling gift wrapping.  Personally, I enjoy gift wrapping.  Nearly every year, without fail my sister has me wrap all the gifts for her friends. One way you can incorporate being eco friendly this Christmas, is by wrapping most, if not all your gifts with newspaper.  It’s a fun way to repurpose newspaper. Use a ribbon to add a little flare.  The good thing about ribbons is that they can be reused.  If you love putting your presents in gift bags, consider purchasing a stylish reusable bag. Happy gift wrapping! With love, from one tree hugger to another, xo

Which Is The Greenest Christmas Tree Of All?

The first day of Christmas, it’s all about decorating the Christmas Tree.  Which tree is the greenest? Is it more eco friendly to have a real Christmas Tree or a faux, plastic one?  Growing up my family always use to buy have a real Christmas tree and it was always fun decorating.  An added bonus was a portion of the proceeds was donated to a charity of our choice.  One year, I was decorating the tree and my cat Poca decided to help out, she ran up the tree and of course it toppled right on me, both Poca and I were fine.  When we made the switch to a plastic tree, thinking it was more eco friendly by sparing a tree from being cut down, for some reason none of our cats bothered climbing the faux tree.  They just kept trying to knock the ornaments off the tree. I have done a little research surrounding the debate of which tree is the best choice when trying to be eco friendly and have minimal impact …
