Virtual Wanderlust: New York City

Summer travel plans may be stinted by the current pandemic, that doesn’t mean your sense of curiosity and exploration needs to take 2020 off. In the face of extended closures, many museums and cultural institutes have been exploring ways to bring tourism online.  New York City is no exception! Many of the city’s landmark museums and some parks have joined Google’s Arts & Culture Platform. Plus, those who haven’t (and even some that have) are hosting their own virtual experience on their websites.  While these are certainly not as good as being in the city, taking in the sights, smells and sounds with your own senses, virtual experiences can certainly help ease some of your wanderlust until airlines and physical travel become viable again.  So, without further ado, here are the top NYC virtual experience picks from this newly minted New Yorker…  Museums  Museum of Modern Art (MOMA): Every Thursday MOMA is hosting a live, virtual experience of its exhibits. These events include talks and commentary from experts. If you miss a live event, no …

Birthday Wishes, Give With Love, xo

On 13th October 2013, I started a birthday tradition, whereby I selected a group of charities to raise awareness and funds for.  I asked friends and family to kindly make a donation in lieu of gifts.  In my twenties, I had reached a point in my life where I no longer needed to accumulate more things.  I love presents just as much as anyone, but the truth was I didn’t need them.  I would rather friends and family give what they would have spent on a birthday present to a charity instead.  So, with that in mind, I used my blog as a platform to help raise awareness for the selected charities over the years.  This year, the theme is blue.  It is the commonality between all three charities I would like to highlight this year.  Blue is representative of the ocean, which directly correlates to both Force Blue and Grand Cayman Eco Divers: Coral Nursery Conservation Program.  Having spent nearly my entire life living on an island, I am drawn to the ocean.  I …

Champagne + Polariod’s

Post New Year’s, Birthdays or any celebration which requires a bottle of Champagne, consider keeping the corks to use later for displaying polaroid photos.  You can also use regular 4×6 photos.  Below are some samples of polariods displayed on recycled champagne corks. The photos of New York and Toronto, as you can tell are not a polariod per se.  I thought it would be fun to recreate the polaroid, and add in some design elements.  When throwing a birthday bash, dinner party, or event consider displaying photos on repurposed champagne corks to personalize your event. with love from one tree hugger to another, xo

Keepsakes: Letters, Postcards, Photos + Cards

The art of writing letters seems almost to be a lost art.  I may be one of the few who still loves to write letters and send postcards.  I have to admit I have quite a little treasure trove of keepsakes such as letters, postcards, tickets from concerts, shows on Broadway to Ballets, metro cards from traveling around New York etc I keep all that stuff, I’m pretty sentimental that way.  It may seem silly, but I look at it as preserving memories and holding onto a moment.  With all the traveling I do, I can’t help but send postcards to my best of friends, and sister. I have found that one of the best ways to house all my keepsakes and the beautiful memories they are linked to, is by repurposing boxes, such as shoe boxes or even perfume gift set boxes (as in the case of my keepsake box). If you love to hold on to cards, letters, postcards, concert tickets and photos or whatever items you hold dear as a keepsake treasure …
