Ocean Lovers + Eco Surfers

Ocean Lovers & Surfers… For some, summer is that time of year when you think of glorious beach days and surfers riding all the waves.  I personally don’t surf but I think it might make it on my bucket list.  However, I do know people who surf.  I am not sure how big the surfing community is here in Cayman, but nonetheless avid surfers are able to find places to surf here.  I would make a bet that most of  those who love to surf are ocean lovers and with that love for the ocean when given the option to, they would choose to buy eco friendly surfboards.  They are in luck! There are some surfboard manufacturers and/or companies that make surfboards out of recycled materials or eco friendly materials which is awesome! Summer Essentials: Beach Days, Road Trips & Travel

If you’re like me you love summer days! So far summer has been pretty awesome.  One of my favorite things to do is to take photos.  I love photography and experimenting with different filters and camera/video apps.  Taking photos isn’t just about capturing a moment so a memory can last a lifetime, or freeze a moment in time forever, it is also a means of expressing yourself creatively and in some instances capturing the natural beauty of a place. I think of all the places I have traveled to and of course my home is probably my absolute favorite place in the world.  Regardless of where I am in the world taking photos, is my way of taking a piece of that place home with me.  More than that, I have come to find that the more I take pictures of the beautiful landscape of my home or other places, I realize how beautiful this world is and how important it is to fight to save the planet and work towards finding solutions for todays …

Swimming with sharks…

No I have never swam with sharks, though there are times I think it would be really awesome to be able to say that I have, as sharks are an amazing animal.  Last night I watched an incredible documentary called “Sharkwater” by Rob Stewart.  If you love sharks then I highly recommend that you watch it.  The cinematography was absolutely stunning!  The documentary captured so many fantastic scenic shots of sharks and other wildlife which inhabit the ocean.  One of my favorite scenes was watching one of the divers holding a shark and stroking the shark like you would  a dog.  The shark was completely docile.  It was just amazing to watch.  Another scene showed a school of hammerhead sharks, just awesome to see them swimming peacefully in the ocean. Sadly, sharks are being hunted resulting in the population of sharks being reduced by 90%.  During the time it took to watch the documentary over 15,000 sharks were estimated to have been killed, it just goes to show how rapidly the population of sharks are …

Be classy, don’t trash the ocean

When I think of the ocean, I picture the gorgeous Caribbean Sea that surrounds my lovely island.  The water is inviting and crystal clear.  It is truly a blessing to be surrounded by such clear water, that is filled with an abundance of marine life, and coral reefs. However, unfortunately some people may not be so lucky, and don’t think of such a picturesque image, instead startling images of the ocean being polluted comes to mind.  For instance, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.  Here is a snapshot of the state the Pacific Ocean is in, “The Pacific Ocean is home to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, which also is known as the “World’s Largest Landfill,” according to the European Commission. An estimated 3.5 million tons of trash reside in this landfill that are the result of whirling currents in the Pacific Ocean that pull trash and pollution into the ocean.” (http://greenliving.nationalgeographic.com/statistics-pollution-pacific-ocean-20311.html) It is simply heart wrenching to see the ocean in such a state of distress as trash is continually being dumped in, polluting the …
