Birthday Wishes, Give With Love, xo

On 13th October 2013, I started a birthday tradition, whereby I selected a group of charities to raise awareness and funds for.  I asked friends and family to kindly make a donation in lieu of gifts.  In my twenties, I had reached a point in my life where I no longer needed to accumulate more things.  I love presents just as much as anyone, but the truth was I didn’t need them.  I would rather friends and family give what they would have spent on a birthday present to a charity instead.  So, with that in mind, I used my blog as a platform to help raise awareness for the selected charities over the years.  This year, the theme is blue.  It is the commonality between all three charities I would like to highlight this year.  Blue is representative of the ocean, which directly correlates to both Force Blue and Grand Cayman Eco Divers: Coral Nursery Conservation Program.  Having spent nearly my entire life living on an island, I am drawn to the ocean.  I …

Birthday Girl Wishes xo

Hello everyone!  I hope you all are having a beautiful day!  The weekend was crazy beautiful from a Masquerade Ball (will soon have a post on that with the behind the scenes of making the decorations) and then a pre-birthday party in 1920’s fashion. Now it is time to embrace and celebrate a new decade.  As far as I am concerned age is just a number and we are as old as we feel.  In the wise words of one of my favorite writers: “We don’t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing.” – George Bernard …

Going Green but Thinking Pink…

As you know October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and marketing focuses on “Think Pink” and I fully support raising awareness for breast cancer and that education is key.  With this in  mind I want to encourage everyone who is thinking pink to go green.  I found a great article today which I want to share with you all, as it has a wonderful and very informative info-graphic about ingredients found in products women use daily that  are contributing to the risk of getting cancer.  What are these cancer-causing ingredients? Lead, aluminum, parabens, phthalates, triclosan and octyl-methoxycinnamate. I implore you ladies to take the time to read the ingredients in products which you use daily such as make-up, deodorant, perfume, lotions, bath products and hair products and check if any of the harmful ingredients listed above are in fact used in the making of that product. Pink Fact:  “Each day, 1 in 13 women are exposed to known or probable human carcinogens through personal care products.” There are  wonderful green alternatives out there that are all …
