Eco Chic Gift Wrapping

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season so far!  Only now have I started tackling gift wrapping.  Personally, I enjoy gift wrapping.  Nearly every year, without fail my sister has me wrap all the gifts for her friends. One way you can incorporate being eco friendly this Christmas, is by wrapping most, if not all your gifts with newspaper.  It’s a fun way to repurpose newspaper. Use a ribbon to add a little flare.  The good thing about ribbons is that they can be reused.  If you love putting your presents in gift bags, consider purchasing a stylish reusable bag. Happy gift wrapping! With love, from one tree hugger to another, xo

Cayman Recycles, Creating A Greener Tomorrow

I absolutely love to hear about new “green” initiatives in Cayman.  It has been long overdue that Cayman started a proper recycling program, as a small island it is imperative that we strive to work towards a greener tomorrow.  Unfortunately, as consumers we have infinite wants and finite resources.  On a whole, as our desire to buy and consume more products grows, we are depleting our natural resources at a rapid rate.  Without implementing proper recycling programs or by choosing not to recycle, has a tremendous negative impact on the environment.  Thankfully, Cayman is working towards offering more greener options and recycling programs for the community.  A huge thanks to JUNK for starting a recycling program.  A special thank you to Kirk Market for sponsoring a recycling collection facility at their location.  Mr. Alberto Thompson, operations manager of JUNK Removal and Recycling, made an excellent point “if every household in the Cayman Islands were compelled to recycle, the amount of trash coming into the dump could be cut in half” (Cayman Compass).  JUNK is …

Ocean Lovers + Eco Surfers

Ocean Lovers & Surfers… For some, summer is that time of year when you think of glorious beach days and surfers riding all the waves.  I personally don’t surf but I think it might make it on my bucket list.  However, I do know people who surf.  I am not sure how big the surfing community is here in Cayman, but nonetheless avid surfers are able to find places to surf here.  I would make a bet that most of  those who love to surf are ocean lovers and with that love for the ocean when given the option to, they would choose to buy eco friendly surfboards.  They are in luck! There are some surfboard manufacturers and/or companies that make surfboards out of recycled materials or eco friendly materials which is awesome! Check out Ocean Green Eco Friendly Surfboards There are other ways to be an eco surfer such as: 1)  When your surfboard breaks, donate it to a recycling company which can repurpose the broken surfboard into building materials. 2) If you have …

Eco Pets: Repurposed Umbrella as raincoat

Photo Credit: Recycling Zychal Today I came across this amazing website  http://www.recyclingzychal.com  where you can purchase a custom made raincoat for your dog, made from a recycled/repurposed umbrella! There are other fabulous products, all made from recycled umbrellas. The products are eco-friendly and custom made, how great is that!  Bonus, these eco friendly products are made for animals.  You can also donate broken umbrella’s so that they can be recycled and repurposed.  It’s really inspiring to see that there are so many wonderful creative people in the world doing their part to better the environment and help animals.  Recycling Zychal donates a portion of the proceeds to animal helping organizations as well as initiating umbrella drives to help clean up the streets after storms.  Love it! from one animal lover to another xo P.S.
