Top 5 Reasons To Love The Ocean

Today is World Water Day, and in honor of that we are dedicating this post to showing some love for the ocean.  Our oceans are an incredible natural resource, one that we cannot take for granted.  We need healthy oceans to ensure our survival just as much as for the survival of the life that thrives in the ocean.  Major threats against our oceans include: plastic pollution that causes harm to marine life and coral reefs, climate change, rising ocean temperatures, icecaps melting, ocean acidification and coral bleaching, just to name a few.  Our oceans are invaluable as are the marine life and coral reefs that call the ocean home.  We can all do our part to contribute to helping protect our oceans.  Even committing to a simple act of taking part in beach cleanups regularly, removing plastic from beaches and the ocean will have a positive impact.  Other simple acts to show our love for the ocean include, wearing ocean-friendly sunscreen, being mindful of coral reefs (don’t touch them), and respect marine life.   …

  I am dedicating this post in honor of the upcoming World Water Day (22 March).  The first World Water Day was in 1993.  The United Nations General Assembly designated 22 March as World Water Day.  Since its inception, World Water Day is celebrated around the world, drawing attention to various water related issues. This year’s theme is “Water Is” Check out the video below for more details. I love this theme.  It is important to step back and take a moment to ponder what does water mean to us and our lives.  Water holds such incredible value.  Many times we take it for granted that there is fresh water available to us.  We have clean water to drink, clean with, and cook with.  However, there are many who are not as fortunate.  For instance, “1 in 9 people lack access to safe water” (Water.org). Today is World Water Day!  Here are some quick facts about the water crisis:  About 2.5 billion people in developing countries still don’t have access to improved sanitation,    like a toilet.  3.4 million people die each year from water, sanitation and hygiene related causes.  780 million people without access to an improved water source. How you can support World Water Day 1. Use tap water– Get a Brita Filter to filter the water and fill up your reusable water bottle. “Tap water has the lowest water and carbon footprint of any beverage.” 2. Conserve Water- You can reduce your water footprint by making the most of your water consumption at home. -When it rains let it pour into your rain barrel.  Don’t have a fancy rain barrel that’s ok, use a plastic bucket.  Catch the rain water and use it on the sunny days to water your plants. -When you put in a new Brita water filter and fill up your pitcher to check the filter is properly in place, save that water for your indoor or outdoor plants. …
