Yay it’s Friday! That can only mean one thing the weekend is almost here! For those of us in Cayman that means we are blessed with yet another long weekend! What better way to kickstart your weekend than with a little eco beauty pampering.  These are some of my favorite eco beauty products, from the Body Shop and Target. Morning Routine 1. Vitamin C Daily Moisturizer SPF 30 Living on an island it is a must to incorporate sunblock into your morning routine.  Even if you are only walking around outside for a few minutes or just in and out of buildings while running errands it doesn’t hurt to protect your face with sunblock.  The Vitamin C boost will help give your skin a radiant glow. Eco Documentary: Fragile Cayman

Photo Credit: Michael Maes (Spotted Eagle Ray) Yesterday I had the privilege of watching an incredible Eco Documentary called Fragile Cayman directed and produced by Michael Maes, a fellow environmental enthusiast.  Michael  is also a diver and photographer extraordinaire, here in the Cayman Islands.  His short but powerful documentary, which was featured in the Cayman Islands Underwater Film Festival of 2012, is comprised of  absolutely stunning cinematography and a montage of incredible shots, which truly capture the essence and beauty of our ocean- specifically in Cayman waters.  The scene with the stingrays at Stingray City was just lovely! The Spotted Eagle Ray just gorgeous, my absolute favorite scenes. For me, it was like watching a silent movie, just a story told through motion pictures accompanied by instrumental music.  Watching the film you can’t help but question, why on earth would anyone not want to save the environment and protect the ocean.  Just watching the amazing footage you are completely mesmerized by the fundamental beauty that is our ocean and the marine life which resides there.  …

Got Eggs? Local. Organic. Sustainable.

For everyone who loves omelets, cakes and other goodies that are made with love and eggs then you will be ecstatic to know that you can find locally farmed eggs that are both delicious and affordable. Brothers, Shanan and Pasmore Harrison have a Cayman Egg Farm which is not-for-profit.  Any proceeds from egg purchases goes directly into feeding and maintaining the chickens as well as supporting Shanan’s ministry which teaches youth and adults how to cook.  Together, their hard work is a labor of love.  The chickens are specifically, layer fowls which means that they do not rely on a rooster to produce eggs.  The animals are cared for with love, and respect. All farmed eggs are organic, thus they are hormone and antibiotic free! It is important that as a community we support our fellow Caymanian’s in their efforts to provide local produce and products which support and encourage sustainability.  As previously mentioned any proceeds from these eggs directly supports the community and the care of the animals, as it is a not-to-profit Cayman …

Ocean Lovers + Eco Surfers

Ocean Lovers & Surfers… For some, summer is that time of year when you think of glorious beach days and surfers riding all the waves.  I personally don’t surf but I think it might make it on my bucket list.  However, I do know people who surf.  I am not sure how big the surfing community is here in Cayman, but nonetheless avid surfers are able to find places to surf here.  I would make a bet that most of  those who love to surf are ocean lovers and with that love for the ocean when given the option to, they would choose to buy eco friendly surfboards.  They are in luck! There are some surfboard manufacturers and/or companies that make surfboards out of recycled materials or eco friendly materials which is awesome! Repurpose Glass Jars & Wine Bottles the Eco Chic Way

  This week I wrote about recycling glass in Cayman, today I would like to share ways to repurpose glass. Glass Jars Instead of tossing out a glass jar that use to store spaghetti sauce or peanut butter, think of creative ways that you can repurpose those jars so that they have a functional value.   Here are some ideas… 5 Repurposed Glass Jars Ideas 1. Use them to store baking goods like flour, sugar and pancake mix. 2. Use them as candle holders. 3. Store fashion accessories and materials like needles & thread, buttons, pins etc 4. Store pennies for a rainy day. 5.
