Letter from the editor…4 Years Blogging

Hello everyone! Today, Eco Chic Cayman turns 4. A huge thank you to everyone who has supported me on this journey.  I am so very grateful to all my readers.  Thank you to all of my contributors, both photographers and guest writers.  It has been such a pleasure working with you.  I look forward to many more collaborations and thank you for inspiring me. Some Lessons Learned Along The Way… I started this blog when I was still living in Toronto.  I am grateful to this day for my friends encouraging me to start a blog, simply because I loved writing.  It took me a while to decide what I would write about.  I eventually chose to write about something I was passionate about— the environment.  I started blogging because it allowed me to write about topics I was interested in and passionate about.  But, it was more than that. Ultimately, I began this blog with the hope that I could make a difference.  I thought writing about environmental issues and wildlife would allow me to contribute …

City Lights & Skylines

Poetry month is almost over.  A little while ago, I took the Poetry Saturday Challenge by My Happy Coincidence.  Unfortunately, I missed last week’s post, so here it is.  Better late than never.  This poem is inspired by the love for art, and wandering through cities. I hope you like it. The photos are snapshots of Boston, one of my favorite cities. Enjoy! with love, xo

Take me past the shores of the seven seas…

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!  To kickoff my weekend, I was inspired to take the Poetry Saturday challenge by, My Happy Coincidence.  Here is one of my favorites, click here. A simple task… To take a moment, suspend myself in time and take in my surroundings, waiting to find a spark of inspiration to write.  I love writing, and it’s been a long time since I have actually written any short stories or poetry.  However, today, I have broken my writing silence, so to speak.  I put my headphones on and began listening to Lana Del Rey, while staring at a photograph of the ocean and the words just came.  I  began to fill the empty pages with poetry. Here you go, my #PoetrySaturday inspiration and creation. I hope you like it. Copyright © 2015 By Laura Butz Have a lovely weekend! with love, xo

Ticktock, Drip Drop

I am dedicating this post in honor of the upcoming World Water Day (22 March).  The first World Water Day was in 1993.  The United Nations General Assembly designated 22 March as World Water Day.  Since its inception, World Water Day is celebrated around the world, drawing attention to various water related issues. This year’s theme is “Water Is” Check out the video below for more details. I love this theme.  It is important to step back and take a moment to ponder what does water mean to us and our lives.  Water holds such incredible value.  Many times we take it for granted that there is fresh water available to us.  We have clean water to drink, clean with, and cook with.  However, there are many who are not as fortunate.  For instance, “1 in 9 people lack access to safe water” (Water.org). Check out this video by Water.org Water is… everything.  Water is life.  Water is at the heart of our survival.   Conservation International has created an incredible short video raising …
